Coopers Maltings

A Maltings is where the magic happens, providing the major raw material for the brewing process. Put simply, our Maltings is the facility within the brewery where we take quality barley and transform it into our unique Coopers malt. Like our beer, our malt is carefully crafted to enhance the aroma, colour and most importantly the flavour Coopers beer is famous for.

Our Maltings

There are not too many (if any) other custom-built Maltings facilities within Australian breweries. And thanks to our Maltings Manager, or ‘Malt Disney’ as we like to call him, our architecturally designed facility is now fully operational; giving our award-winning team of brewers an unfair advantage when it comes to crafting our range of Ales and Lagers.

Our Malts

Our Maltings plant gives us the ability to create and develop only the best malts from the finest Australian barley. From this, we’re able to manufacture a variety of premium quality malts from Pilsner and Pale Malt to Ale Malt, to Munich and Vienna Malt. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Having our own Maltings further increases our ability to experiment with new flavours and brews well into the future. And just quietly, the future is looking tasty.

Malting Process

First, we source the barley, then we craft the malt and then we brew the beer. It’s a lot easier said than done, but it’s this process that makes Coopers the industry leaders in innovation and product development. The process begins by sourcing only the best Australian barley, it’s then steeped (wet) to achieve optimal moisture in the grain for germination and then finally, the end result (our malt) is dried in a kiln to develop the flavours and aromas. It sounds easy, but if it were easy everyone would be doing it.

Stay tuned for more information to come on our Maltings.
